The Art of Tablescaping
There’s something magical about transforming an empty table.
Nourishment and connection are fundamental human necessities; so really, at it’s core, setting a stunning table honors and elevates this essential part of life.
For me, crafting a table is more than arranging plates and flowers—it’s about welcoming guests into a thoughtfully curated space that creates a sense of safety, opens up conversation, and leaves a lasting memory. A beautifully set table becomes more than just a place to dine—it’s a space that invites your guests to relax, connect, and be in the moment.
This year, for the first time since my divorce, I’m truly excited to set a holiday table. I’m in a strong, happy place, looking forward to time spent with my special people and eager to see what the future holds. We’re all privileged to spend time with those we love—why not set a table that reflects the gratitude and joy of the season, creating a space as warm and gorgeous as the people around it?
Crafting A Memorable Tablescape
With that spirit in mind, I’ll walk you through my approach to crafting a tablescape that’s as beautiful as it is welcoming. From building a strong foundation to layering in those fina touches, each step is designed to make your table feel as special as the gathering itself.
“The magic of a memorable tablescape is often in the layering details”
STEP 1: Create The Foundation
Before getting into the decor, it’s important to make sure the essentials of your table are set up well. Nothing kills the vibe faster than a table that’s beautiful but hard to navigate—no one wants to dodge towering centerpieces or risk knocking things over just to grab their glass.
Start by laying the foundation: tablecloth, runner, chargers, or placemats. Next, add in your essentials—plates, utensils, napkins, and glasses for water and wine. This is your canvas, setting the stage for a table that’s both gorgeous and easy to enjoy.

STEP 2: Layer It On, Baby
The magic of a memorable tablescape is often in the layering details. Once the foundation is set, it’s time to add those accents that bring texture, color, and personality to the table. Start with a focal point, like candle holders or a collection of decor pieces that draw the eye, and then build around it.
For this table, I started by placing candle holders and artichoke figurines to create focal points and add a touch of personality. Next, I layered in beautiful faux florals and greenery, which acted as a soft, natural bed for the accessories. Finally, I nestled velvet pumpkins, wood accents, and faux artichokes into any areas that needed a little extra filling. Together, these elements add richness and texture to the table, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels both warm and thoughtfully styled.

Step 3: Read the Room
A memorable tablescape doesn’t stand alone—it connects with the surrounding space to create a cohesive atmosphere. To tie everything together, accessorize the buffet, console, or sideboard with complementary touches that echo your dining table. Think of these areas as supporting players that enhance the main event at the dining table, bringing cohesion to the entire space.

For this table, I added coordinating accents to the buffet and console—candles, small decorative items, and an arrangement of greenery that mirrors the table’s colors and textures. These details create a natural flow from one area to the next, giving the entire room a cohesive, welcoming feel. I also found incredible disposable plates and a chic acrylic dispenser for both the plates and napkins—perfect for dessert (and no extra cleanup!). Finally, I updated the bookshelf decor to tie into the table’s color story, unifying the space even further.
