Step Into The House of Prim Client Meeting Room

Running House of Prim out of my big marital home was doable. Then life changed in 2021—divorce happened, the big Westport, CT house sold at the top of the market, and I moved into a modest three-bedroom rental with my three growing boys—and a LOT of containers.

The boys and I were living among a sea of Amazon boxes; containers were everywhere, practically becoming part of the furniture. It wasn’t fair to them, and I was quite frankly going crazy….I’m the Organizer....I’m supposed to have my own home in order, right? It was clear: we needed an office.

I had an idea in fall 2023: I wanted a HOUSE for House of Prim. I envisioned a space for my growing business that was multipurpose: part office, part design & idea house, part client showroom, part content haven. A place with curated organization materials that you could actually come in and see, touch, feel, and understand—instead of blindly navigating the mammoth of The Container Store.

And then we found it: The HOUSE of Prim. Taking on an office space felt like a big leap, but I knew it was the only way to grow. I’m a hustler, and I work hard for what I want—so I decided to bet on myself and signed on the dotted line.

Today, The House is bright, happy, and buzzing with (organized) activity. It’s a place we all love spending time in, and we’re more productive than ever.

For the first in our Design Series, I’m excited to show you all the cool elements we used to create our main Meeting Room. Everything used to create this space is clickable, inventive, and affordable—and a testament to what belief in an idea, and in yourself, can achieve.

THE BEFORE

The House was dark, bland, and nothing spectacular, but I immediately saw the potential and knew I could create the perfect space for my business—without breaking the bank. I don’t have investors; I have ME, so a huge budget wasn’t an option. So, we got creative.

My goal was to transform the space to showcase House of Prim’s burgeoning design chops while staying renter-friendly and on budget (which is not my favorite word). And, most importantly, to make it FEEL great.

The layout of the meeting room was challenging. The space was intended to be multipurpose, hosting everything from meetings and cocktails to project prep, so we needed to move furniture around easily to meet those needs. The long, rectangular space was awkward and made placement (and carpet sourcing) tricky. The low ceilings and two small windows meant natural light was scarce. Every interior choice needed to balance form and function, making the space both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

THE AFTER

Happy, light colors with sophisticated accents; soothing blue tones with clean whites, and pops of unexpected color in areas around The House all fell into place. I was practically itching to wallpaper the entire house but was mindful of both the budget and the potential hassle of removal down the line. So, I chose a stunning peel-and-stick wallpaper from Spoonflower by textiles & wallpaper designer Danika Herrick. We covered almost every room with her designs, and I cannot say enough good things about both Spoonflower’s quality and Danika’s gorgeous work.

Investment went into two key areas. First, the carpet—traditional sizes were either too wide or too short, so I opted for the Van Veldt from a newer company called Ernesta, that has custom carpet options and beautiful, quality options. Second, I'm a longtime fan of the Samsung Frame TV and felt it was perfect for what we needed. This choice was twofold: it allowed us to display art or our logo prominently, and we could present Design Plans to clients during meetings. I also splurged on one of my favorite floor lamps, the Alberto Floor Lamp from Visual Comfort. It's stunning and a piece I can take wherever we go!

To balance these investments, we sourced affordable furniture from sites like Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, and IKEA. Now, look—at times, it can be an “order and see” situation with this type of roll the dice design method, but when you hit it, you hit it well. Our white cane chairs and lacquered console are by the brand Safavieh, which is a great example of “order and see.” I’ve found their pieces to be lovely and affordable—and a solid quality.

I am a complete high-low shopper and design enthusiast—it’s possible to completely elevate even the most basic piece with the right elements. My absolute favorite way to do this is through ACCESSORIES. Layering beautiful books, objects, and baskets on simple white IKEA shelves lets us have both form and function, plus the quick-change ability to show clients how 12 bins will look when placed together. A white table serves as a foundation for meetings and displaying our latest House of Prim product drops, as well as a place to prep for projects or unbox arrivals for client projects.

The House is still a work in progress, with window treatments and decor still in the works. So far, I can confidently say that Team Prim LOVES (loves) our little House.
